Cilmor Distribution Park

The sheer scale and size of the Shoprite Checkers Cilmor distribution park presented our architecture team in Cape Town with the challenge of allowing this mammoth 100 000m² industrial development to blend into its surroundings.

Our team of Industrial Architects at SLT implemented various design techniques to soften the exterior. The use of curved lines were introduced to mimic the surrounding rolling hills.

Furthermore, the curved roof was extended down to the lowest possible point above the canopies, effectively combining these two elements. Eliminating this conventional vertical line break resulted in one continuous curved line that draws an on-lookers eye across and over the roof, reducing the perceived scale of the buildings.

By pushing the conventional boundaries of industrial warehousing design, we redefined the stereotypes of what these types of building should look like.
